Current volunteer vacancies:

FLIC Peer Mentor

SHP’s Fulfilling Lives in Islington and Camden (FLIC) team – who support Islington and Camden residents with multiple and complex needs – are recruiting for a team of Peer Mentors.

We are looking for people who have direct experience of homelessness, mental ill health, and/or substance misuse, who are stable in their recovery, to provide one-to-one support to FLIC clients. The Mentor will represent an inspirational figure of recovery, and will support their Mentee to consider opportunities for change and to access relevant services.

Peer Mentors will also have monthly individual and group supervision and will be supported in the creation of a Personal Development Plan, with the ultimate aim of accessing employment opportunities. They will have access to a personal budget to support them with achieving the goals set out in their Development Plan. Peer Mentors will have a degree of time flexibility, and we are particularly encouraging women to apply.

Support: All FLIC Peer Mentors will attend a nine day AQA accredited training course before being matched with one or two clients. You will also receive support from the Peer Development Coordinator in monthly individual and group supervision sessions.

Supervisor: Peer Development Coordinator

Location: SHP services across London.

Hours: Flexible

Deadline for applications: Friday 10 November

Training begins: Monday 27 November

Green Spark Volunteer

Everyone knows gardening keeps you fit, but spending quality time in the garden can also have enormous benefits for mental wellbeing, personal development and recovery.

As well as offering the chance to learn practical skills, taking part in group gardening sessions helps people gain confidence, reduce their isolation, develop their social and communication skills and prepare for living independently.

We're looking for Green Spark volunteers to help us design and lead gardening sessions around a variety of services.

Description of duties:

  • Lead designated gardening sessions at a chosen SHP service
  • Plan and lead gardening activities for each session
  • Prepare materials and equipment for each session
  • Deal with any issues arriving in gardening sessions and speak to the relevant staff members about these
  • Support other volunteers in their role

Support: You will receive support from the Green coordinator in regular one to one meetings (approximately every four weeks).

Supervisor: Green coordinator.

Location: SHP services across London.

Hours: One session per week or fortnights (two-four hours) by arrangement with the supervisor.
