Services Opportunities Programme Tackling inactivity in the Over 55’s To evidence the impact of our work with over 55's, our outcomes are being continuously evaluated by a team of experts. Evaluation of our initial nine month pilot has already shown major health gains among participants, including those with chronic physical conditions, substance use needs, mental health needs and histories of rough sleeping. Of 63 participants, 87 per cent were still active after six months, with some even joining local gyms and community centres in addition to their regular sessions. In the longer term we hope this work can serve as a model for developing more effective strategies to tackle some of the health inequalities that persist among socially excluded people in the UK. Our evaluation team includes Dr Mike Loosemore MBE, Lead Consultant in Sport & Exercise Medicine (SEM) at the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health at University College London, and Dr Lee Smith, Reader in Physical Activity and Public Health at Anglia Ruskin University.
