To celebrate International Women’s Day, SHP’s Camden Recovery and Islington Aftercare services hosted a fun, inclusive Women’s Day event at the London Irish Centre.

Women from across Camden came together to join in the fun and celebrate. Activities included brooch making, henna art, nail painting, smoothie making and dancing. As well as fun and games, there was also an inspirational line up of speakers, and an opportunity for women to find out more about local services, including domestic abuse and sexual health support services. SHP were joined by the Working Men’s college, CLASH, Find and Treat, Barley and Clean Break to deliver the day’s packed schedule.

One woman described the event as “very inspiring”, while another said: “it was very nice to meet and celebrate our commonality and there was an eclectic mix of events and activities.”

SHP Support Assistant Ella Parkinson, who helped organise the event said: “I’m happy to see so many women come down today. It’s a shining example of the community of strong women we have here at SHP and across other services. It’s great to see so many women getting stuck in to different activities as well as supporting and encouraging one another to share their inspiring stories.”

To tie in to the wider theme of International Women’s Day, attendees were encouraged to fill out a “Be Bold for Change” poster and have their picture taken with it. Dozens of women got involved, and you can see a selection of the photographs and videos on our Facebook page
