A group of clients from SHP Young People’s services have gone behind the scenes at Radio 1 Xtra as part of the BBC #1MillionHours campaign.

Six clients from our Barnsbury Park and Farnborough House hostels were invited on to Charlie Sloth and DJ Target shows. Clients were given an exclusive behind the scenes tour, and also spoke about their experiences of living in a hostel live on air.

SHP's Lucy Ferrier, who accompanied the young people, said: “Charlie Sloth and DJ Target are both heroes to the young people that we work with, and they were all so excited to appear on their shows. Two of our clients were particularly pleased to get a ‘sloth bomb’ – they haven’t stopped talking about it! It’s important for the young people that we work with to get opportunities like this, as most of them haven’t had the easiest start in life. I’m sure that the visit has helped to inspire some of our residents and help them look forward to the future.”

#1MillionHours is BBC Radio 1 & BBC Radio 1Xtra’s year-long campaign to get #1Million Hours of volunteering pledged to good causes. So far 600,000 hours pledged since the launch in December 2015.
