Dear all

Looking back on another politically tumultuous year, 2019 has seen SHP continuing to evolve, diversify and build on its reputation for high quality services.

We have been able to position ourselves as one of London’s go-to providers of rough sleeping services, with three new shelters opening in Redbridge and North London this winter and our existing Ryedale shelter operating 24/7 from January.

We’ve extended our profile as a leader in Housing First, significantly expanded our work with young people with the addition of our new services in Greenwich, and our Pan-London Offender Service has helped to prevent homelessness right across the capital.

Key pillars of our Opportunities programme are now properly resourced and funded, with the Sport and Health project winning national recognition for its outstanding outcomes and our music and arts programmes also flourishing.

Across both our hostels and community-based services, staff continue to deal with ever more complex needs, demonstrating a commitment to applying the principles of PIE and treating each client as an individual.  I never cease to be impressed by the passion staff show for making a difference to the lives of clients and their resilience and professionalism in the face of challenging work.  It’s also been great to see people coming together in the Community of Practice to look at ways that SHP can better equip and support staff to meet these challenges.

We said a sad goodbye to our Chair Jonathan Senker this year after many years of service, but were delighted to welcome our new chair Jon Rosser.

Our IT transition project, while not without its challenges, is now almost complete and will give us a much more robust infrastructure which will stand us in good stead in the years to come.

Finally, this year’s Christmas appeal is on course to be our most successful yet, and once again we have been able to provide gifts and parties for clients right across our services.

I would like to thank you all for your dedication and hard work throughout the year and wish each one of you a very merry Christmas and a great 2020.

Best wishes,

Liz
