SHP's Untold Stories show now open to the public
SHP’s Untold Stories art show is now open to the public! The free exhibition is open to all visitors and will run until Saturday 23 July 2011.SHP clients are exhibiting their artwork along with portraits of their lives and experiences in a special mixed-media exhibition called Untold Stories. The show explores the idea that by listening to the hidden narratives of those who are socially excluded, we can move away from stereotypes to a more equal and inclusive society.
Our clients have been working with the support of artists such as Rob Wass, Giles Walker and Matt Small in SHP’s weekly art programme. Images of the artwork being exhibited at Untold Stories are on display at our online gallery.
The show includes ‘If You Ask Me’ portraits, using the style of questions posed to celebrities in The Observer to bring out the hidden stories of people struggling with issues such as homelessness, mental ill health, alcohol and drug addiction and criminal pasts. Client artists interviewed include Caroline Silver, Sybil Adelaja and Tony Palmer.
With a focus on mental ill health, the show also features self-portraits by clients of SHP's Arundel and Dennington Park Road projects.
The artwork is also available for purchase at our online shop or by contacting us. All profits will go towards sustaining SHP’s weekly art programme and help us develop new art initiatives.
Untold Stories is on show from 1 – 22 July 2011, at the Together Our Space Gallery, 12 Old Street, London, EC1V 9BE (view map). Opening times are from 9.30am – 5.00pm weekdays. There will be a special opening on Saturday 23 July, as part of the Whitecross Street Party. Admission is free and the nearest tube stations are Barbican and Old Street (Exit 7).
Please call Heather Atkin on 020 7520 8660 or e-mail hatkin@shp.org.uk if you would like more information about this exhibition or information about the artwork.
