Queenstown Road
Queenstown Road is an 11-bed project providing accommodation and support for homeless people with medium-high mental health support needs. The project accepts people with dual diagnosis.
Queenstown Road Service Aims
Queenstown Road works within a harm minimisation framework and a recovery and strengths model. The service aims to:
- Sustain links and involvement with or assist access to primary or other care services, such as CMHT and substance or alcohol services
- Help clients to comply with the terms of their license agreement around key areas including house rules, health & safety, noise disruption, damage or harassment, payment of rent and service charges.
- Encourage clients to build and develop friendships and local community links
- Enable clients to access education training and employment opportunities
- Encourage the development of life skills, including shopping, budgeting and meal preparation
- Assist with claiming relevant welfare benefits
Queenstown Road Referral Criteria
This service is for:
- People who are homeless, aged between 18-65 with a verified connection to Wandsworth
- People with a primary diagnosis of mental ill health, with or without a secondary diagnosis in relation to substance / alcohol misuse
- People with ongoing poly-substance use issues, including those who continue to use class A drugs
Our referrals come from two principal sources:
- Wandsworth HPU (Homeless Persons Unit)
- Wandsworth CMHT (Community Mental Health Team)
All referrals must be accompanied by an up-to-date risk assessment. The comprehensive risk assessment will ensure that Queenstown Road can meet the needs of any potential client and avoid unnecessary exclusions
Queenstown Road Accommodation
The project comprises 11 single rooms with en-suite bathrooms. The rooms are separated into four flats: one single flat and three triple-bed flats.
Each flat has a shared kitchen, bathroom and laundry facilities. Clients also share a large communal lounge and garden.
More about Queenstown Road
An important focus of Queenstown Road is to provide a safe and secure environment, to help clients bring stability to their lives. Queenstown Road aims to minimise harm from substance use and enable those who are ready to access appropriate treatment services.
Queenstown Road is staffed 24/7 with support staff on site during the day and a concierge service at night. If necessary, management advice and presence is accessible in the evenings and weekend through SHP’s on-call service.
House Rules
Clients are issued with a tenure agreement and a set of house rules. These will be explained when prospective clients are interviewed. This includes rules on smoking, which is only permitted in clients’ bedrooms.
The service operates within SHP’s drug policy, which covers the use of all drugs including illegal or controlled drugs. In order to offer a secure and stable environment for everyone, no visitors are allowed.
