Arlington Road Service Aims

Arlington Road works within a harm minimisation framework and a recovery and strengths model. The service aims to:

• Provide specialist and high-level interventions for clients
• Stabilise and reduce risky and harmful behaviour
• Retain in accommodation those previously excluded from other hostels
• Ensure that clients have access to primary healthcare and other services
• Promote meaningful use of time in preparation for movement through the Hostels Pathway
• Work in partnership with a wide variety of internal and external providers to ensure opportunities and choice for clients

Arlington Road Referral Criteria

This service is for:

• People with a connection to Camden
• Older men with ongoing needs in relation to alcohol use
• People with associated low-level mental health problems
• Men engaged in street activity or at risk of an ASBO or offending

Referrals are accepted from designated agencies in the Camden Hostels Pathway. The hostel and flats are designated Specialist Supported Drug and Alcohol (continued use).

All referrals must be submitted using the HPM Universal Pathways Referral form, and Universal Risk Assessment along with an up-to-date Universal Pathways Progress Summary (UPPS). The comprehensive risk assessment will be used to ensure that the project is able to meet the needs of clients, rather than excluding people unnecessarily.

Arlington Road Accommodation

Arlington Road comprises two distinct types of accommodation:

• The hostel contains 25 single rooms, the majority with en-suite bathrooms. There are also shared bathrooms and a large communal area on each floor. The hostel is catered and the dining area is on the rear of the building.
• Thirteen self-contained flats are in two blocks on either side of the hostel. Currently eight flats are for men and five for women. Flat tenants are welcome to purchase meals from the canteen and use the laundry facilities and communal areas.

An important focus of Arlington Road is providing a safe and secure environment, to help clients bring stability to their lives. Arlington Road aims to minimise harm from alcohol and substance use and enable those who are ready to access appropriate treatment services.

Project workers assess clients' needs and provide regular, tailored support to help each individual find stability, consolidate their recovery from ongoing substance use, build on their strengths and move on when appropriate.

The project is staffed 24/7. At evenings and weekends the project has access to management advice and presence through SHP's On Call service.

House Rules

Residents are issued with a license agreement and a set of house rules. These will be explained when prospective clients are interviewed. This includes rules on smoking, which is only permitted in clients’ bedrooms.

The service operates within SHP’s drug policy, which covers the use of all drugs including illegal or controlled drugs. In order to offer a secure and stable environment for everyone, no visitors are allowed.
