What we mean when we say...

Harm minimisation framework

This means that we recognise that many clients are engaged in substance use, whether we like it or not. Rather than starting with a moral judgement about whether that practice should be taking place, we start by helping the individual to stay as safe as possible

Recovery and strengths model

This means that we try to reframe situations positively. It involves assessing clients' strengths, building on them and using them to aid recovery.

This is opposed to traditional therapies which can involve clients being framed as 'deficient' or 'victims'.

Health interventions

This is quite simply an effort to promote good health behaviour. A high-level intervention would be an attempt to promote something critical such as eating, sleeping, avoiding blood-borne infections.
